SGI has several scholarship programs set in place aimed at assisting students who are studying in business-related fields of SGI. These SGI scholarships are provided by SGI Canada and applicants are to email their completed SGI Corporate Scholarship application form to scholarships@sgi.sk.ca.

There’s no guarantee of employment for award recipients; however, the recipients may be given preferential consideration for employment but this is following the completion of their studies or for summer student/co-op opportunities.

SGI Anniversary Scholarship

Application Deadline: September 30

Value: 4 annual scholarships of $2,500

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a child/legal dependent of an employee of SGI CANADA, SGI or Coachman.
  • Be into full-time studies in a certificate, diploma, or degree program at any post-secondary campus that is accredited.
  • Make provision for proof of enrolment in the fall semester of the current year of academics.
  • Have at least an average of 70% in the last academic year of study.
  • Engage in the demonstration of contributions to the community, extracurricular activities or commitments made in balancing work, education and home responsibilities.

Selection process

All applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be entered in a draw and notification will be sent to the winners in early October.


SGI Corporate Scholarship

Application Deadline: September 30

Value: 7 annual scholarships of $2,500

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be residing in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba or Ontario.
  • Not be a legal dependent of an employee of SGI CANADA.
  • Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate certificate, diploma, or degree program related to the business needs of SGI CANADA at a campus for post-secondary studies that has been accredited in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba or Ontario. Business needs are given a broad definition to include all aspects and the corporation’s departments.
  • Submit a transcript demonstrating at least an average of 70% in the last academic year of study.

Selection process

All applicants who meet the eligibility criteria in a draw will be put in a draw and notification will be sent to the 7 winners in early October.


Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) Scholarships

Application Deadline: October 31

Value: 2 scholarships valued at $2,500

Eligibility criteria

This scholarship is open to students enrolled in the Management Studies Faculty in the areas of:

  • Management Studies Diploma
  • Accounting

Applicants must:

  • be into a full-time study and take a full course load
  • have at least 70% average
  • have an attendance of 90%

Peradventure the above criteria is met by multiple applicants, some secondary criteria will be used to break ties such as:

  • clearly defined goals for one’s career identified in cover letter/resume
  • need for financial help
  • numeral of dependants

Application process

Students’ applications should be sent directly to SIIT. The application may be downloaded from the SIIT website or applicants can pick up applications at the program delivery sites or Campus.

  • letter of reference from an instructor
  • updated curriculum vitae and cover letter
  • attendance records
  • recent transcripts

Selection process

The committee in charge of selection for SIIT will select the recipients and award the scholarships in December.


Business Insurance Diploma Scholarship

Application deadline: Set by Saskatchewan Polytechnic

Value: 4 annual scholarships of $2,500

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be students of Saskatchewan Polytechnic Palliser campus where they are to be enrolled full-time in a year 2 of the Business Insurance Diploma Program.
  • Hold at least a minimum of 70% average in their 1st year of the program.
  • Give a self-declaration as a diversity student with Saskatchewan Polytechnic for consideration for the designated diversity scholarship.

Selection criteria

The criteria on which recipients will be selected includes

  • Achievement in academics, as reflected in overall GPA of all classes which is a requirement to complete the Business Certificate (75% weighting)
  • Financial need (25% weighting).

Conditions of award acceptance

Recipients must:

  • Provide Saskatchewan Polytechnic with permission to release the applicant’s name and contact information to SGI.
  • Share current curriculum vitae with SGI.

Stan Hamilton Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in honor of Stan Hamilton, SGI Vice President of Human Resources (1982 to 1983). The man, Hamilton played roles in establishing the foundation for SGI’s Employment Equity Plan.

Application deadline: October 31

Value: 1 annual $2,500 scholarship

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be aboriginal (First Nations – Treaty or non-status, Métis or Inuit).
  • Be students at First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) obtaining full-time studies.
  • Maintain an overall average of a minimum of 65%.
  • Show their contribution to the community, extracurricular activities or commitments made in balancing education, work, and home responsibilities.

Auto Body Technician Certificate

Application deadline: Set by Saskatchewan Polytechnic

Value: 2 annual $2,500 scholarships

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled full-time in the Auto Body Technician Certificate Program at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Wascana Campus or the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Kelsey campus or
  • Give a self-declaration as a diversity student with the Polytechnic in Saskatchewan for consideration for the designated diversity scholarship.

Selection criteria

  • Financial need (25% weighting)
  • Achievement in the academic field (75% weighting)

Risk Management and Insurance Scholarship

Application deadline:No application is required

Value: 1 annual scholarship of $3,000

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be residing in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Alberta or Manitoba.
  • Be registered in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of studies in Risk Management and Insurance (RMIN) or Risk Management and Insurance/Finance (RMIF) at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
  • Hold a GPA of at least 3.20.

Application process

All eligible students will automatically be considered by the faculty and the scholarship award will be given a scholarship in April.


SGI Actuarial Science Scholarship

Application deadline: No application is required.

Value: 1 annual scholarship of $2,000

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Have successfully completed 60 or more credit hours towards a degree in Bachelor of Science, major in Actuarial Science.
  • Be enrolled in ASC 116, 216, and 317 or have completed.
  • Hold an average of a minimum of 80%.

Notification will be sent to recipients by October 30 annually.


SGI Graduate Research Grant

Application Deadline: September 30

Value: $5,000 for each academic year

About

The vision of SGI is to achieve the safest roads in Canada — an improvement in traffic safety plays a big role in doing this. The SGI Graduate Research Grant is available to students who have graduated and whose proposed research involves engineering or human factor issues related to traffic safety.

This grant intends to:

  • Support idea development that could be of help in addressing the traffic safety issues in Saskatchewan.
  • Develop interest and expertise in graduate students in the area of safety of roads.
  • Use the University of Regina’s expertise as a medium to broaden the scope of safety research in SGI’s traffic.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Propose research that involves engineering or human factors issues related to safety in traffic.
  • Be accepted as a graduate student at the University of Regina and is fully qualified.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 80%.
  • Be registered full-time (minimum 6 credit hours) in the semester they receive the award.
  • If continuing students, be in good standing and have demonstrated achievement that is satisfactory in coursework as well as appropriate progress toward the completion of the research requirement.

Application process

Applications for this scholarship award are available on the website of the University of Regina. A research proposal along with an outline of their relevant experience related to their project should be included by applicants. A confidential letter of reference is needed from the student’s supervising faculty member as a support for the applications.

Selection process

Applications will be reviewed, a recipient selected and notification sent to recipients by November 3. This is to be carried out by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research Scholarship Committee

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba or Ontario. The awards administered by the University of Saskatchewan are not the only awards available to students studying at the U of S; hence students are encouraged to look for other sources of awards, such as associations and clubs. Governments, Agencies, or other organizations offer external awards outside the US.
  • Not be a legal dependent of an employee of SGI CANADA. This is because legal dependants of SGI and SGI CANADA employees are only eligible for the SGI Anniversary Scholarships.
  • Be into full-time studies in an undergraduate diploma, certificate, or degree program related to the business needs of SGI CANADA at an accredited post-secondary campus in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Manitoba or Ontario. Business needs are given a broad definition so as to include all aspects and departments in the corporation.
  • Submit a transcript demonstrating a minimum of an average of 70% in the last academic year of study.
  • Submit proof of enrolment in the fall semester of the current academic year.
  • Demonstrate contribution to a community, extracurricular activities, or commitments made in balancing education, work, and home responsibilities.
