About Yazd University

Yazd University is a public research university in Yazd, Iran. It is a major state-funded research center in central Iran and the academic center of Yazd province and was the first comprehensive institution of higher education.

It is also the principal heir to the former University College Yazd. The university was founded in 1989 by a merger of several older institutions and grew rapidly over the years. Its main campus is located in Safaeeyeh.

There are four other campuses and two autonomous schools, all located within or in the vicinity of the city of Yazd.

Yazd University offers BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in more than 40 fields through its 29 departments and is home to more than 14000 students.

The initial establishment of Yazd University (YU) dates back to 1988. The university has been improving over time to the point that at present about 14000 students are educating at this university. The University has three faculties and two schools with 21 departments.

Currently,  the university runs different fields of study including 47 Bachelor, 110 Master, and 51 PhD disciplines within 46 academic programs. It has currently about 400 faculty members, 400 employees, and 14000 students, which makes YU one of the significant comprehensive universities throughout Iran.

Four of its faculty members have been listed within the top one percent of the world scientists and based upon The Times Higher Education World University Rankings; YU is now in the position of the 12th top university in Iran and between 200 topmost young universities in the world.

In order to prepare a proper context for the young talented students of other countries and based on admission regulations of non-Iranian students in the universities and higher education centers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Yazd University intends to admit foreign students.
