What Is The MTTC Test?

The MTTC is a test set and scored by Pearson VUE. It is offered as both a computerized and paper test.

 Prospective teachers will need to take two tests in order to become certified teachers in the state of Michigan. These are the MTTC Professional Readiness Examination, and a Subject-area test.

The Professional Readiness Examination will consist of 129 multiple-choice questions and 2 constructed-response assignments. It lasts for four and a half hours to complete.

Similarly, the Subject-area test will be related to the teachers’ preferred field of education. It is a multi-choice question that varies in the number of questions and time limit. The Language tests will also have an added constructed-response section.

But the total number of tests is 63.

MTTC Test Study Guide

To pass the score MTTC test, you need to score at least 220 in a 300-score list. This is the cumulative score for all tests taken.

The study guide provides past questions and study areas for all test types.

If you are an in-state aspiring teacher who is or has completed a Michigan-approved teacher preparation program, please contact your Michigan Preparation Provider with questions regarding testing. They will provide information on the type of test you will take.

Likewise, if you completed an out-of-state teacher preparation program, you must apply for Michigan certification through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS ) before any testing guidance can be provided.

Submit your application, pay the evaluation fee, and send in all the documents they will request and your application will be evaluated. After the evaluation, they will issue a report on the type of test you will take.

How To Register for the MTTC Michigan Teacher Tests

To register for the test, follow the steps below.

Go to the Michigan Tests for Teacher Certification (MTTC) website and create a user account. It is this account that you will use to register for the exam.

You will be required to provide the following information.

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number
  • A password
  • An answer to a selected security question

After creating your account, pay for the exam. After payment, schedule your exam. Indicate where and when you’d like to take the test. The paper-based testers will select this from a list that will be provided. Including the deadline for registration.

Note: The paper-based test has a limited number of times and space it is offered. There is a fine for late registration.

Where can I write the MTTC Test?

You can write the MTTC test in any Pearson VUE test center that is in the US, Canada, and 11 other locations in Michigan. However, you need to check the available locations before registering for the exam.

MTTC Test Dates

Because the MTTC tests are numerous, they all have different test dates and fees.

As of the date of writing this article, all tests are now administered through computer-based testing by appointment only. Most are available year-round, Monday through Saturday excluding some holidays, at test centers in the United States and Canada.

How To Check Your MTTC Test Result

The MTTC result is made available in your account and can be viewed for 2 years.

MTTC result in the passing score is determined on the basis of an examinee’s total test performance. All test results are reported as scaled scores. The MTTC result is scaled from 100 to 300. A score of 220 and above is a passing score. Numeric total test scores will be reported only for examinees who do not pass the tests.
