#2. Advanced Placement

All students are encouraged to take at least one AP course during their four years in preparation for the rigors of college-level courses. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are entry-level college courses and are offered across all disciplines.

All students who take an Advanced Placement course are required to take the AP exam for that particular course at the end of the school year.

If a student fails to take the AP exam for the course s/he is taking, the student will not earn AP credit. College Board, which oversees the Advanced Placement courses and exams, charges fees for each test.

#3. College Classes

Students at Herron High School are expected to take courses on campus if Herron offers the course.

Each semester, Ivy Tech Community College offers courses on campus for dual credit. If Herron High School does not offer a course a student wishes to take, the student and parent/guardian should request permission from the administration.

If the course is approved, the student may proceed with off-campus enrollment at the offering college or university. However, Herron High School does not assume any financial responsibility for such coursework.

#4. Curriculum

Herron High School’s curriculum employs the Socratic method and the Trivium across all subject areas.

Each course is designed to build fundamental knowledge, develop the ability to reason and debate, and cultivate critical-thinking skills with the ability to articulate ideas.
