About Northwest Elementary School

Northwest Elementary School came into existence in 1983 and serves approximately 830 students in grades 3-5.  The school has 10 third, 10 fourth, and 9 fifth grade self-contained classrooms. 

In addition, the school offers five resource teachers, a MICI room, a Title I program, a large media center, and a full-sized gymnasium.  A professional staff of 42 teachers and a large support staff combine to offer a well-rounded program at our upper elementary level. All teachers are highly qualified according to federal standards.

Admission Requirements To Study At Northwest Elementary School

If you choose to apply to Northwest Elementary School as a new or transfer student, you need to call the Northwest Elementary office first to schedule an appointment. 

New students under the age of eighteen (18) must be enrolled by their parents or legal guardian.

While going for the appointment, you’ll need to go with the following documents:

  • ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE
  • Court papers allocating parental rights and responsibilities, or custody (if appropriate)
  • CURRENT IMMUNIZATION RECORDS
  • PROOF OF RESIDENCY (need to provide all 3):
    1. Mortgage, Lease, or Rental Agreement (a Property Tax Statement is also acceptable if you own your home)
    2. Current utility bill (phone, electric, garbage, cable, etc.)
    3. Current credit card bill, bank statement, car insurance, etc.
  • If your child receives special education services, a copy of your most current IEP
  • Proof of immunization
  • Unofficial transcript from the previous school, if any.

Northwest Elementary School Arrival and Dismissal Times

School attendance is mandatory in the State of Michigan in order to make certain that all children acquire the necessary skills for success as adults. Establishing good attendance patterns in the elementary years is one of the best ways to ensure a student will stay in school through graduation.

At Northwest Elementary School academic activities for the full day starts from 8.55 am – 3.40 pm while the half-day starts from 8.55 am– 12.15 pm. 

When a student is absent for any reason, the parent is expected to notify the school.  Please provide your child’s name, teacher’s name, grade level, and reason for the absence.

Student Fees At Northwest Community Schools

Northwest Community Schools charge specific fees for non-curricular activities and programs. Such fees or charges are determined by the cost of materials, freight/handling fees, and add-on fees for loss or damage to school property. The school and staff do not make a profit.

The District will provide all basic supplies needed to complete the required course curriculum. The student and/or his/her family may choose to purchase their own supplies if they desire to have a greater quantity or quality of supplies, or desire to help conserve the limited resources for use by others. The teacher or appropriate administrator may recommend useful supplies for these purposes. (See Policy 6152)
