Loudoun County Public Schools ranks number three on the list of school systems in Virginia. Located in Ashburn, the public school has a student population of 83,606 in grades PK, K-12. LCPS is a part of Loudoun County and is in charge of the administrations of the public schools in Loudoun County.

Loudoun County Schools is one of the fastest-growing school counties in Virginia. The population of Loudoun County schools is expected to see an increase in the coming years. Every year, Loudoun County public schools establish one to three new educational facilities to contain the increasing population of students.

The school is operated daily by the educational superintendent (Dr.) Scott A Zieglar. However, the school system is under the authority of the Loudoun County School Board. The school board is a nine-member panel instituted through public elections by the citizens of Loudoun.

Loudoun County Schools have a student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1, with 86% of students proficient in maths and 84% proficient in reading.

Step-By-Step Registration Guide for Loudoun County Public Schools

Step One—Eligibility  

  • Verification of Age Eligibility

The intending student must be five years old before or on the 30th of September of the school year to qualify for enrolment into the kindergarten class. There is no exemption from this state requirement. Also, some students less than 20 years on or before the first of August of the school year may receive an extension.

  • Evidence of Residency

Parents or legal guardians must provide evidence of residency. In the case where the child is not residing with the parents or a legal guardian, reference can be made to the Special Registration Criteria for more information about registering the child. There are different schools zoned for different parts of Loudoun. Therefore, students need to ensure that their choice of school is within the attendance zone.

Loudoun County Public Schools system may request for re-confirmation of residency every annual re-enrollment of a child. Parents/legal guardians that intend to register their child/ward in a school in another attendance zone, must first register the child in a school within their zone before requesting Special Permission.

Step Two–Documentation

  • Proof of Age

Parents/legal guardians must provide a certified birth certificate of their child/ward.

  • Proof of Identity

Parents/guardians must provide verifiable proof of identity with their names and evidence of address.

  • Proof of Immunization 

Parents must provide proof of their child’s immunization history from a government health center or a certified pediatrician.

Step Three—Complete the Registration Process

Parents may decide to finish their registration online or submit hand-filled paper documents at their choice school (within the attendance zone). For a list of Attendance zones, parents can visit the following link.

Step Four—Book a Registration Appointment

Once online pre-registration is complete and all necessary documents are collected, parents/legal guardians must contact the child’s zoned school to book an appointment to conclude the registration process. The parent or legal guardian of the child must submit all necessary documents to the school in person.

Tuition Fees for Loudoun County Schools

  • Parents and legal guardians can request Tuition fees using the Tuition Request Form. The approval of tuition requests depends on the availability of space in the choice school.
  • There are no waiver and siblings scale fees.
  • Once the request is sent to the school, the school will work together with the Business and Financial Service office to generate a tailored invoice in line with the duration of the request. Parents/ legal guardians will then make payments upon receipt of the invoice. Payments can be made using cash, check, or money order. Credit cards/debit cards and ACH transactions are also acceptable means of fees payment.

Tuition rates for the 2024-22 session are:

In-State Residents will pay a yearly fee of $12,350 while out-of-state residents will pay a yearly fee of $17,894. 

Scholarships

To support education in the county, there are many scholarship opportunities available for students of Loudoun County Schools.
