African Science Academy Pre-University Scholarship 

Applications are submitted for the African Science Academy Pre-University Scholarship 2024. This scholarship is open to African female students, and applications are to be submitted before the deadline.

About the African Science Academy

The African Science Academy (ASA) is a new, girls-only Advanced Level school for maths and science. Opened in August 2016 on the outskirts of Accra, Ghana, ASA is a “sixth-form” college leading to globally respected Cambridge International A Levels.

ASA is a boarding school for young women with outstanding maths and science potential. We select academically gifted students with a passion for maths and science.

Students apply from across Africa and are admitted after their senior secondary education in preparation for progression to the best universities in Africa and worldwide.

ASA is a pathway to undergraduate study and future careers in Engineering, Science, Computing, and more. Means-tested scholarships and bursaries are available to all students.

Description of Scholarship:

Apply to our one year Pre-University Program at the African Science Academy (Ghana):

If accepted to join the African Science Academy, you will enter a life-changing one-year program in August 2024, alongside some of the greatest young minds the continent has to offer. The curriculum will be based on the Cambridge International A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics.

Type/Field of Study

The scholarship is designed for Secondary school/Undergraduate students who wish to study at the African Science Academy.   Interested in studying Medicine, Chemistry, or Biology at university?

ASA may not be the school for you. At ASA, students study an intensive course focused on mathematics, physics, and computing.

Benefit  of Scholarship:

ASA is searching for excellence. Therefore, no selected students will be turned away because they cannot afford the fees. Applications from promising young scientists are encouraged whatever their financial circumstances.

Around 70% of the students receive some level of financial assistance in the form of tuition fee scholarships or bursaries to cover living expenses.

Scholarship Eligibility

Students admitted to the African Science Academy are typically between 16-19 years old, female, and from any African country. You will:

  • Need to have completed your Senior Secondary School Certificate, iGCSEs, O-Levels, or equivalent by August 2024.
  • Have studied Physics and Maths at secondary school and have excellent predicted grades in these subjects.
  • Be fluent in the English language
  • Have a passion for learning

Interested in studying Medicine, Chemistry, or Biology at university? ASA may not be the school for you. Our students study an intensive course focused on mathematics, physics, and computing.

How to apply for African Science Academy Pre-University Scholarship

You can either apply by downloading and completing our application form or via our online platform by following the steps below.

2) Send us your completed application form(s) and additional documents by the 1st December for the regular application deadline or the 31st January for the late application.

If you apply online, please make sure to complete both the application form and the scholarship form if you are hoping to get a scholarship.

Note that you will be required to upload school transcripts from the last 6 terms, any recent national level examination certificate (such as BECE or O-Levels), and a recent passport-style photo of yourself.

These documents may also be sent to admissions@africangifted.org. Your application will not be complete unless these documents have been submitted. In the email please mention your full name.

How is the Selection done?

Selection: Successful candidates in the first round will be invited to write an entrance exam in maths, physics, and problem-solving skills. Students will also be asked to submit a short essay on a topic given to them by ASA before they sit the exam.

The final stage of the selection process will be a face-to-face interview.
