ABET is a non-profit, NGO that accredits college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, and engineering technology.
Established in 1932 as the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development (ECPD), in 1980, it became the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology to describe the emphasis on accreditation accurately. In 2005, we began using the acronyms ABET only to reflect our expanded scope.

Eligibility for SWE scholarships
To Get the Society of Women Engineers Scholarship, an applicant must:
- Be an undergraduate applicant who is always ready to research an ABET-accredited application in engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year.
- For the master’s or Ph.D. applicants, they must be registered or enrolled in a college using ABET-accredited programs in technology, computing, or engineering.
- Have the intention to attend full-time (exceptions are made for re-entry and unconventional applicants).
