#1. VLIR-OUS Masters (ICP) and Training Scholarships by the Belgium government for African and developing countries

VLIR-UOS offers scholarships to students from Uganda and other developing countries in Africa and around the world so they can pursue a training and master’s program in Belgium. Annually, VLIR-UOS awards about 150-180 scholarships to fresh master’s students and about 70 scholarships to training participants.

#2. VLIR-UOS Oceans and Lakes masters Scholarship program for developing countries

The Ocean and Lakes Scholarship Programme is an educational sponsorship program offered by a network of three universities in Belgium; Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Free University of Brussel), Universiteit Antwerp (University of Antwerp), and Universiteit Gent (University of Ghent).

These network of universities provide their students with the basic and core knowledge needed to foster scientific research and management of maritime and lacustrine systems.

The programme employs a multifaceted approach that addresses physical, chemical, geological, ecological, and societal aspects as well as nature and sustainable development.

#6. Global Minds Doctoral Scholarship program for students in developing countries-KU Leuven

The Global Minds Doctoral Scholarship Program is one of the Belgium sponsorship programs for Ugandans. Every academic year KU Leuven selects exceptional students from developing countries as scholarship candidates to obtain their Ph.D. from the largest university in Belgium.

This is part of their input in building capacity among students from developing countries.

The main aim of the scholarship is to give students the opportunity to conduct Ph.D. research in a ‘sandwich’ system, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, supported by a local co-promoter.

Level/Host Nationality:

This program is a Ph.D. degree program hosted, taken, and awarded by the KU Leuven Belgium. KU Leuven is situated about twenty kilometers from Brussels, the capital of both Belgium and Europe.

The Flemish Ministry of Education Scholarships are provided and offered by the University of Antwerp, Belgium. It is a Master Mind program hosted by Belgium and made available to international students which also aims to promote Flanders and Brussels as a top study destinations.
