as just dealing out a few cards. Many of the positions require skill and knowledge rather
than just a passion for gambling and having fun.
The good news is that there are now several ways to get casino jobs, including sponsorship for recognized qualifications.
Dealer Scholarships
The Live! Casino and Hotel Scholarship is one example of sponsorship that is available for
industry qualifications. If you want a career as a casino dealer, this qualification will give
you a head start on the ladder.
Only a limited number of scholarships are available but in partnership with Anne Arundel Community College, Live! Casino and Hotel are offering places for students. This involves tuition, free of charge, and covers subjects such as poker dealing, blackjack dealing, and carnival games.
Students will be expected to wear appropriate evening dress for the training, which will
include both theory and practical work. Everything from table layout and chip handling
to dealing, licensing, and casino chain of command is covered in the curriculum.
New Generation of Gaming Jobs
Historically casino games were all in land casinos, so if you wanted a career, you’d need to move closer to casino locations – or possibly take a job on a cruise ship. However, the ever-growing selection of live casino games means that there are now lots of jobs onscreen too.
If you’ve always been drawn to media and presenting but also live casino games, this is the perfect hybrid career. Online casino dealers are an area of rapid growth, with the number of jobs rocketing due to the popularity of the play.
Even before 2020, online casinos were popular, but the universal need for streamed entertainment during the pandemic has brought gambling to a much wider audience. Many studios are offering live casino games, so if you enjoy being in front of the camera and are keen to develop your skills as a dealer, this is an option well worth considering.
Other Betting Roles Available
Dealers are one of the most popular roles in casinos, but they’re not the only position that you can aim for. Some of the lesser-known roles in casinos include:
1. Casino Host:
This is one of the more glamorous positions within a casino and can range from greeting guests at the door to pampering them during their visit. Your role is to encourage people to stay and spend money by ensuring they enjoy themselves and have a good time.
2. Pit Boss:
Also known as a floor manager, there can be several pit bosses in a casino, each with their own area of responsibility. The role involves looking after all elements of play within your gaming area, including management of staff, security, and cash flow.
3. Gaming Surveillance Officer:
If you don’t want a customer-facing role but love the casino, a gaming surveillance officer could be right for you. The hours can be long, but your responsibilities would include scanning the floor electronically for signs of fraud and cheating or any other problems. A combination of security skills and astute observation is what’s needed to perform this role successfully.
4. Slots Supervisor:
A slot supervisor looks after the slot machines and will have lots of customer contact and needs some basic maintenance knowledge. A low-level management position, slots supervisor, offers a way for maintenance workers to move to the casino floor.
