Why Long-Term Scholarships?

However, the Ministry aims to create knowledge, growth, and welfare in Denmark as it takes place in an increasingly globalized world. The Ministry’s vision is to create the best conditions for European research, study, and innovation.

Note Ph.D. students must likewise be employed at or affiliated with higher education institutions in the countries mentioned above. Scholarships are tenable during the academic year. The autumn term begins on September 1st and the spring term on February 1st.

Which Danish institutions offer long-term scholarships

The University of Southern Denmark offers the Danish Government Scholarship – supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science – to certain applicants in recognition of the important investment that overseas students make during their education.

It is only possible to apply for a study scholarship at institutions that offer Danish scholarships. So, below is a list of Danish institutions offering Long-Term Scholarships in Denmark:

  • Aalborg University
  • University of Copenhagen
  • Aarhus University
  • Roskilde University
  • University of Southern Denmark
  • Technical University of Denmark (DTU)
  • The Royal Danish Academy of Music
  • The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation

Scholarship worth

Winners of this long-term Danish scholarship will receive a stipend of DKK 6,500 monthly and free tuition. And also, this scholarship can cover a student’s travel, visa fees, accommodation, food, and other living expenses.

Note, This Danish Government scholarship covers just one individual excluding his or her other family.

Please note that living expenses in Denmark are generally high and that housing, especially in the larger cities, is often very expensive. The scholarship will not be likely not to cover all expenses.

The long-term scholarships program covers 30-50% of the tuition fees, meaning the student must pay the rest. Under certain circumstances, students awarded a scholarship from UCN may also receive an additional partial monthly living.

This scholarship may be awarded for the entire study program or single semesters.

Eligibility for Danish Government Long-term Scholarship

To apply for this Danish Government Scholarship, you must be pursuing a degree program in either masters or Ph.D. However, bachelor’s degree students wishing to study the Danish language and literature can apply if they have studied it for two years.

The Government of Denmark hosts this scholarship.

Long-term scholarships of 5-12 months are offered to exchange students from higher education institutions in the following countries:

  • Brazil
  • China
  • Egypt
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Russia

Interestingly, these scholarships are only offered for exchanges (not full-degree studies), and only to students enrolled in full-degree studies at higher education institutions in the countries listed above.

Note, Applications from candidates affiliated with higher education institutions in countries other than those listed will not be considered.

How to Apply for the Danish Scholarships

To be considered for a scholarship, the applicants must:

  • Fill in the scholarship application form, including a motivation letter stating the reasons for applying to UCN and for applying for the specific program in question.
  • Apply and be accepted to one of the English-taught study programs which UCN offers

Furthermore, the students must attach the following:

  • Documentation of passed exams (translated into English)
  • Documentation of relevant working experience
  • References (if any)
  • Copy of passport
  • Documentation of applying for a program at UCN
