Here is a breakdown of what to expect:

Why Study Abroad?

In many countries today, applicants are denied employment because of their low-quality degree and their inability to possess needed skills. So, in a bid to get top-quality education, many students make up their minds to study abroad.

Here is the thing!

Although every student’s goal is always to be to get the highest possible quality of education regardless of where they study, however becoming an international student can greatly broaden your study options.

Reason being that countries abroad like the UK, USA, and Australia all have extremely highly regarded higher education systems. Also, a huge percentage of the world’s highest-ranking universities are in these few countries.

Aside from this, there are several reasons why you may want to study abroad. When you study abroad, you will enjoy the following:

  • Experience a different culture
  • Learn a new language
  • Make new friends
  • Become independent
  • Career opportunities

Today, we will be looking at some of the preparations candidates must put in place to ensure a hitch-free study abroad. First, we want to look at finances.

What To Consider While Preparing To Study Abroad

Here are some important factors to consider if you want to study abroad:

Finances

This is the first thing to consider before embarking on a study abroad project. The reason is that studying abroad can at times be expensive depending on the area or country one chooses to study. For example, places like the US, UK, Australia, and Canada have expensive schools with tuition fees ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 per year.

So you will need to have enough money in your account for you to study in these places. But if you cannot afford these high fees, you may consider studying in countries where the tuition fees and cost of living are low and affordable.

These countries include but are not limited to; Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus, and Cyprus to mention but a few. Tuition fees in these countries are not high and usually range from $1500 to $6000  per year, depending on your program.

Apply Early to Schools

After looking into your finances, and deciding on the country to study abroad, the next thing you do is to start sending your admission application to schools as early as possible. All universities have admission deadlines and may not consider your admission application if it arrives after the stipulated deadline.

Most schools stop accepting admission applications around May or June, but you need to contact the school directly to find out the actual deadlines for admissions into their schools.

Make Available All Supporting Documents

Your admission application is incomplete without supporting documents. The school will need to see your results, transcripts, and reference letters before giving you a study offer. So make sure these documents are available before you start your admission application.

You can go to your school to request for these documents to avoid delays and disappointments if you’ve not done so already.

If you are applying for an undergraduate program, the documents usually needed are a good high school/secondary school result with at least five credit passes in relevant subjects, some schools may demand SATs depending on the program.

You will also need an international passport if you are going to travel with a visa.

And for postgraduate study, applicants will be expected to provide degree results and transcripts, two reference letters from lecturers or employers, GMAT(for some programs), and TOEFL if the English language is not your first language.

Please never send original copies of your credentials to schools as they will never be returned. Only send notarized or photocopies.
