Admission to MIT for a graduate program is a completely different animal than admission to MIT for an undergraduate degree. You must have almost perfect grades, outstanding test scores, recommendations, and, most importantly, the special ability to succeed in a rigorous course load.

Mastery of the field you want to enter is a requirement for admission to MIT. Literally, you must demonstrate that you have exhausted all of your options for a subject and that enrolling in MIT is the only way to advance.

How Much Does CEE Program at MIT Cost?

Civil Engineering Tuition and Fees

The total price of an MIT CEE course for the 2020-2024 academic year is $76,150. However, most students pay much less than that.

Most importantly, they offer full financial aid, meaning we meet 100% of the demonstrated financial needs for all students admitted through various types of assistance.

For this reason, the average annual total price paid by an MIT student receiving need-based assistance is approximately $23,442. This makes it less than the cost of attending the average public university as a student.

Overall, 90% of their students receive some form of financial aid, including scholarships and work, and 76% of students graduate is debt-free. Meanwhile, the average starting salary for an MIT senior who entered the industry in 2018 was $89,710, a good return on investment for most students.

Civil Engineering Financial Aid and Scholarships

Basically, applications for financial aid are processed by our office of Student Financial Services. You can learn more about the process on their site

The Institute’s undergraduate financial aid program ensures that MIT education is available to all qualified applicants, regardless of their financial situation.

MIT provides financial assistance to cover the full cost of an MIT education based on the family’s calculated financial needs.

In 2018-2019, 90% of college students received $160.3 million in financial aid from all sources, with MIT being the largest source. For students whose family income is less than $90,000, the Institute guarantees that funding scholarships from all sources will allow them to take courses without enrollment at MIT.

Financial need is the difference between the cost of participating in MIT and the family’s ability to pay this amount. They can determine who needs the financial aid more using the information parents provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service (CSS) profile.

The first $3,400 of financial need they give as self-help can be met through on-time work, outside scholarships or grants (including Pell grants), or student loans.

While the remaining need, if any, is met by a grant from MIT. Most importantly, students who receive scholarships and grants from sources outside of MIT can use this aid to replace student self-help.

Each department largely provides financial aid for graduate students, and the amount varies considerably. Financial assistance includes scholarships, internships, teaching and research assistants, and loans.

Most forms of support are awarded on merit, while others are awarded on financial need or a combination of merit and need.

How to Get Funding in Master of Engineering in Civil Department of MIT

At MIT CEE, they admit the world’s most talented students through blind admissions to needs. Once admitted, they meet all your financial needs for the four years of your college career.

Just as you know, financial aid is any financing that helps finance your college expenses. This assistance generally comes from various sources, including grants and scholarships, job and research opportunities, and sometimes student loans.

Now, there is the best way to gain financial aid from MIT easily.

Basically, MIT awards their scholarships only according to financial need and comes from their endowment, gifts from alumni and friends of MIT, and general funds from MIT.

59% of our college students receive scholarships from MIT. Meanwhile, the average grant was $47,593 for 2018-2019.

They will automatically put all students applying for financial aid and completing the CSS01 profile into consideration for the MIT scholarship.

How to Get into MIT Civil Engineering

Officially, the MIT CEE admission process is designed to be completed online.

Please note that all electronic documents will be submitted, scanned, and downloaded. They will not process documents that cannot be scanned, such as CDs, DVDs, books, slides, certificate folders, or newspaper clippings.

When applying for graduate studies in engineering, depth often counts more than breadth. And demonstrating your ability to be independent and have focus can be more important than having broad interests and a wide range of experience.

Describe your technical expertise clearly to demonstrate mastery of the concepts and skills you have learned through relevant activities. Such as lab projects, courses, internships, summer jobs, and previous research experience.

Suppose there is other scannable information that you think would add depth to your application. In that case, you should download and print an additional MIT document cover from your application portal and attach it to any documents. Not required to submit.

Finally, don’t ignore bad marks or other anomalies in your application. If you’ve struggled with a course or other challenge, your goal statement is a good place to recognize this setback and explain what you’ve learned from the experience.
