Although we are small, we are powerful, said one student, “It’s like a warm hug every day on campus.”

So, they encourage you to come with your good personality and dreams, because in Stephens, friendship means something and last a lifetime.

About Stephens College

Founded in 1833, Stephens College is an institution committed to its mission: Learn, Grow, and Lead.

Stephens College is resilient and optimistic, true to her traditions, and eager to embrace whatever the future holds.

Focused on the arts, humanities, and health sciences, Stephens continues to prepare graduates (from their residential undergraduate college, coeducational graduate programs, and a 90-year school) for the life that awaits them: lives of distinction, integrity, service.

Why Choose Stephens College

Stephens College is a proud women’s college located in Columbia, Missouri. Since its founding in 1833, it has offered innovative and career-oriented programs in the liberal arts with an emphasis on the creative arts and sciences.

Stephens College is one of the oldest women’s educational institutions in the country, having spent more than 180 years “empowering women to be independent and showing that we can change the world.”

Recently, they take a hands-on, experiential approach to education, ensuring that their students receive quality classroom instruction and outside work experiences that complement their courses.

The classes are very small, making it a very intensive learning experience, but thankfully their programs are so cool and creative that no Stephens woman gets bored.

The fashion program is very popular and an annual fashion show is one of the school’s most anticipated events, and a strong theater program “consistently produces great artists.”

They also offer online and graduate programs for women and men as part of their commitment to lifelong learning.

Stephens is “blessed” to have such an amazing teaching staff. By creating an incredible and comfortable environment for learning and asking questions, it sets them for success in our future.

Above all, what unites all of their programs is their commitment to helping those with big dreams. They are out to help you find the knowledge, opportunities, and experiences you need to pursue your dreams and pursue them with whatever you have.

Stephens College Community

This community of “inspiring, united, and motivating women,” is “a melting pot of women,” where everyone “appreciates the outcast and the black sheep.”

There is no college group here, and a quick survey of the campus will reveal a group of “genuine” women who embody what they love, and if that means wearing riding boots, stage makeup, or wearing light equipment that is too heavy, students are always working on something and looking to make their dreams come true.

“We literally come from all over the world. It’s such a welcoming and diverse environment,” says one girl.

Unsurprisingly, feminism is strong here and Stephens is also a “very liberal LGBT +” place.

Life at Stephens College

Wondering what academics life at Stephen will be like? There is a lot to love about this prestigious school.

Life at Stephens College has put a lot of students in the midst of love.

Most of their students interviewed confess that they always feel at home there. They believe that the campus is beautiful, easy to navigate, and a great place to make friends. They also value the university’s close relationship with the local community and appreciate the interaction of different types of students on campus.

And that’s not all there is to love about life at Stephens. The hometown of Columbia, Missouri, is frequently ranked as one of America’s top college towns.

There is always something to do here, thanks to three universities and more than 30,000 students. Columbia really has it all: great college sports; film, music, and arts festivals; amazing recreation; and a great city center with plenty of places to eat, shop, and watch the latest bands.

The historic Stephens campus is a short walk from downtown Columbia, so you get the best of both worlds: the charm of brick and ivy and the bustle of a bustling college town.

During your stay, you will discover a culture of respect and support, as well as a network of friends eager to live the incredible adventures of life with you. Most importantly, their college dorms are truly a home away from home (you can even bring a pet!).

They always look forward to welcoming you to this great campus.

Stephens College Acceptance Rate

Is it difficult to get into Stephens College and can I get accepted?

From our analysis, Stephens College has an acceptance rate of 56%, ranking 11th in Missouri for the lowest acceptance rate. This means that the school is moderately selective.

We didn’t just make this up, there are statistics that led to this.

This is what we mean.

Last year, 558 out of 992 applicants were admitted, making Stephens College a more competitive school to enter with good chances of acceptance for eligible applicants.

Academically, it has average requirements for admissions test scores and generally admits students who rank in the top 54%.

The school expects you to meet its requirements for GPA and SAT / ACT scores, but they are more flexible than other schools. If you exceed your requirements, you have an excellent opportunity to enter. But if you don’t, you could be part of the unfortunate minority that receives a rejection letter.

Stephens College generally accepts and attracts “B +” high school students. Only 20% of those admitted chose to enroll in school. Most of the freshmen graduated in the lower half of their high school class.

Here is a good break down of the Admission Statistics

Admissions at Stephens College

Getting admission into Stephens College means putting your foot forward. Because admission at Stephens College is competitive.

Admissions officials at Stephens College always require a student’s GPA as one of their academic factors. They also put into consideration the applicant’s high school class rank, when available, and letters of recommendation for admissions.

Stephens College Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate Admissions Requirements

What are the admission requirements to Stephens College?

While there are many elements that are included in a college application, you only need to focus on a few critical points:

  • GPA requirements
  • Test requirements, including SAT and ACT requirements
  • Application requirements

Each school has different requirements for standardized testing. Most schools require the SAT or ACT, and many also require SAT subject tests.

You must take either the SAT or ACT to submit an application to Stephens College. More importantly, you need to do well to have a strong application.

In this article, we will cover what you need to get into Stephens College and build a strong application.

Stephens College SAT Requirements & Average SAT Score

What are the SAT requirements for students to be admitted to Stephens College?

Stephens College generally requires applicants to be above 60% for the SAT tests. The school systematically lowers composite SAT scores to 1000 on a scale of 1600, below which admission should be easy to reach.

Many schools say they have no SAT score cutoff, but the truth is that there is a hidden SAT requirement. This is based on the school’s average score.

We estimate that some students could be accepted with an SAT as low as 880. Hence, the estimated composite SAT average for admitted freshmen is 1200 out of 1600.

The school is ranked 17th in Missouri for the highest average composite SAT score. Meanwhile, 21 percent of applicants send SAT scores to the school.

The 25th percentile New SAT score is 1000, and the 75th percentile New SAT score is 1200. In other words, 1000 on the New SAT places you below average, while 1200 will move you up to above average.

Here’s the breakdown of new SAT scores by section:

Section Average 25th Percentile 75th Percentile
Math 530 480 570
Reading + Writing 580 520 630
Composite 1110 1000 1200

Of all the scores they receive, your application readers will consider your highest section scores across all SAT test dates you submit.

Therefore, if your SAT score is currently below 1110, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. You have a very good chance of raising your score, which will significantly boost your chances of getting in.

Estimated Chance of Acceptance by SAT Score

SAT Score (1600 scale) Competitiveness Admission Chances
1240 and Above Good >68%
1120 to 1240 Avg + 56%-68%
1000 to 1120 Avg – 43%-56%
880 to 1000 Reach 31%-43%
Less than 880 Low <31%
Stephens College ACT Requirements & Average ACT Score

What are the ACT requirements for prospective students to get into Stephens College?

Just like for the SAT, Stephens College likely doesn’t have a hard ACT cutoff, but if you score too low, your application will get tossed in the trash.

Admission data indicates that Stephens College regularly accepts students with ACT’s of 20 and above. Successful applicants typically send ACT scores in the top 49 percent nationally.

We estimate the school accepting minimum ACT composite scores of around 18 in some instances. Prospective students submitting an ACT composite of 22 or higher should be in the upper half of applicants – and students with a 25 and above have very competitive chances.

The school ranks #23 in Missouri for the highest average ACT composite score. Scoring well on the ACT is very important as 87 percent of applicants submit ACT scores to Stephens College.

Stephens College GPA Requirements

Many schools specify a minimum GPA requirement, but this is often just the bare minimum to submit an application without immediately getting rejected.

The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. For this, we look at the school’s average GPA for its current students.

With a GPA of 3.27, Stephens College accepts below-average students. It’s OK to be a B-average student, with some A’s mixed in. It’d be best to avoid C’s and D’s since application readers might doubt whether you can handle the stress of college academics.

If you’re currently junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change in time for college applications. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.27, you’ll need a higher SAT or ACT score to compensate. This will help you compete effectively against other applicants who have higher GPAs than you.

The school ranks #25 in Missouri for highest average GPA. If your high school GPA meets these requirements, there is a good chance you will be accepted as Stephens College accepts 56% of students who apply.
