As student mobility plays an important role in the further internationalization and harmonization of higher education, one of SHARE’s components is a scholarship program for intra-ASEAN and ASEAN-EU mobility to test the application of credit transfer systems (ACTS and AECTS).
The SHARE partner, Nuffic, is implementing this scholarship program through a short-term (one semester) exchange of students with scholarships.
This will be done by providing approximately 500 scholarships, of which 400 scholarships are allocated for intra-ASEAN mobility and 100 scholarships for ASEAN-EU mobility.
Nuffic will also facilitate capacity-building workshops for universities willing to enhance their internationalization process, student mobility, and the use of the new credit transfer systems.
For the pilot batch of the scholarship program, SHARE has partnered with eight ASEAN universities to implement the scholarship program.
The scholarship scheme is part of the work of the “EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region,” or SHARE, designed by ASEAN and EU to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance the quality, regional competitiveness, and internationalization of ASEAN Higher Education Institutions.
Officially launched in May 2015, SHARE is a €10 million EU grant-funded program. In realizing its vision of creating an ASEAN Higher Education Area, ASEAN is working with a consortium led by the British Council and comprising the DAAD, EP-Nuffic, Campus France, ENQA, and EUA until 2024.
