Howard Need and Merit-Based Scholarship

Specifically, Howard University remains committed to supporting our students and their academic efforts by awarding more than $106 million annually in scholarships and grants.

Students receive various scholarships based on merit, each with their criteria. Some are unique scholarships, while they can renew others if the student meets the pre-set criteria.

In addition, Howard University has not canceled any scholarships for students who meet the eligibility requirements:

  • Be registered full time for the fall and spring semesters
  • Complete a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on time (born US citizens, permanent and naturalized residents)
  • Maintain a default GPA
  • Earn the minimum amount of credits required each semester.

Before receiving assistance, each student receiving merit-based assistance receives and must sign a “Scholarship Acceptance Statement” that specifies what they must do to maintain their eligibility for the award next year.

The appeal process is a privilege that extends to some institutional scholarships, but not all. The scholarship acceptance statement indicates whether they will allow calls for the scholarship they will grant to a student.

Early renewal offer letters are always sent to students regarding their attendance based on the merits and needs of Howard University.

The letter stated that offers based on merit and need depended on the researcher’s academic history after the semester qualifications presentation.
