Imperial College London ISSF Springboard Research Fellowships,

The Imperial College London is inviting applications for ISSF Springboard Fellowships for the academic year 2024. These Imperial College research fellowships are available for international students.

ISSF Springboard Fellowships offer flexible funding for up to 12 months to support career advancement and the retention of young academics.

Sponsored in collaboration with the specialist departments, these awards are intended as short-term grants that allow these researchers to collect preliminary data and develop the independence required to be competitive for future external grant applications.

These grants are open to researchers from ALL faculties of the college to conduct research on behalf of the Wellcome Trust. Researchers from disciplines outside of biomedicine can apply for funding, provided the project falls into this area of responsibility.

Multidisciplinary applications are expressly encouraged. We also encourage applications from academics from different backgrounds who are currently underrepresented in this program.

Since the events of Summer 2024 and the Black Lives Matter movement, we’ve wanted to become even more proactive to ensure that all of our options are open to all groups in order to make Imperial a truly inclusive place to work.

The aim of the ISSF Springboard Fellowships is to help with the career progression and retention of outstanding early-career researchers.

Brief Description:

Imperial College London is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom. Its founder, Prince Albert, envisioned an area composed of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Natural History Museum, Royal Albert Hall, and the Imperial Institute.

Imperial College London, a science-based institution based in the center of the capital, is regarded as one of the UK’s leading institutions.

The college has around 15,000 students and 8,000 staff, with a focus on four main areas: science, engineering, medicine, and business.

The institution has its roots in the vision of Prince Albert to make London’s South Kensington a center for education, with colleges going alongside the nearby Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Science Museum.

Imperial was granted its charter in 1907, merging the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City & Guilds College.

The institution boasts 14 Nobel Prize winners, including Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin.

Famous alumni include science fiction author H.G. Wells, Queen guitarist Brian May, former prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi, former UK chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson, and former chief executive of Singapore Airlines Chew Choon Seng.

The college’s motto is Scientia imperii decus et tutamen, which translates as “Scientific knowledge, the crowning glory and the safeguard of the empire”.

Imperial’s most notable landmark is the Queen’s Tower, a reminder of the Imperial Institute, built to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.
