The Ashland University of Ohio has announced that it’s now offering Fortnite scholarships to exceptional Fortnite players who are citizens of the United States. The school is forming an eSports scholarship program, which it believes to be the “first known collegiate eSports program in the country.” Fortnite just so happens to be one of the games on the school’s list of collegiate eSports titles.
Ashland University is one of 66 colleges and universities in the U.S. that have joined the National Association of Collegiate Esports since it was founded in 2016. The e-sports scholarship program offers scholarships of up to $4,000.

- 2024 Awards for Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students

- Art, Music and Theatre Scholarships
These departments award scholarships based on talent. Each department requires an on-campus interview. An audition is required for the theatre and music scholarships, while submission of a portfolio is necessary to apply for the art scholarship. These scholarships are renewable by fulfilling certain departmental criteria.
- Ashbrook Scholarship
A renewable scholarship based on the merit of up to $2,000 per year. A major or minor in political science and a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 are required. Applications for the scholarship are available from the Ashbrook Center. Students in the program must maintain a 3.0 GPA to renew the scholarship. - Ashland University Grant
A need-based grant is offered to students. In addition to financial needs as determined through the FAFSA, the grant is based on high school GPA and ACT or SAT scores or college GPA for transfer students. Renewal is based on the need of the student in subsequent years and the academic performance of the student at Ashland University.
- Athletic Scholarship
Men’s and women’s varsity sports offer scholarships to selected athletes. The coaches, under the leadership of the athletic director and in coordination with the Financial Aid Office, determine standards of distribution that follow the guidelines set down by the athletic conference and the NCAA. The coach determines the total amount of athletic and non-exempt aid awarded to the student-athlete.
- Brethren Grant
Students who are members of the Ashland-based Brethren Church prior to enrolling at Ashland University are eligible for this grant.
