The Scholarship aims at sponsoring Nigerian Students through a qualitative and best Study in Japan. Engineering Students, Medicine Students, and any discipline are blessed with the MEXT Japan Scholarship.
About the Monbukagakusho MEXT Scholarship
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) of the Japanese Government has been inviting international students to study in Japan on a Fully Funded Scholarship since 1954. The MEXT Scholarship has taken a great step in Building Japanese Culture around International Communities.
The MEXT Japan has Instructed all Eligible Countries to apply for them through Japanese embassies or Agencies abroad or Japanese universities.
The Scholarship is awarded based on the eligibility deemed fit by the Embassies in every eligible Country in Conjunction with the Education board of those countries.

Level/Field of Study:
The Scholarship is designed for three sets of Students in Nigeria.
Research Students
The MEXT Japan Scholarship for Nigerian Students is designed for Postgraduate students who wish to research in Japan for Ph.D./Master’s degrees and non-degree courses.
In addition to this are individuals conducting research in an undergraduate department, etc. Must be in the Age Bracket of 35 years and Above.
Undergraduate Students
The Scholarship takes Nigerian Students who delight to pursue their degree in Japanese universities for undergraduate degrees.
Applicants Should have been born between April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2003. (between the age range of 17 and 25 years).
College of Technology Students
Only Nigerian Students who love to study in Japan free at a college of technology, Mechanical/Electronic Engineering, etc.
Applicants must have been born between April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2003. (17 to 25 years of age).
Specialized Training College Students
The Japan Scholarship for Nigerians can Students who wish to Study in Specialized Training Colleges In Japan.
Schools like specialized training college, Technology, Business, Fashion, Culture, etc. fall in this category.
Applicants Should have been born between April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2003. (between the age range of 17 and 25 years).
Host Nationality:
The Scholarship is hosted in Japan. Japanese Institution, Skill Acquisition Centers, Colleges of Education, and Research Centers.
Eligible Nationalities.
The MEXT Scholarship is hosted in many other countries where Japanese Embassy is located. The Scholarship here is a Japanese Embassy Scholarship for Nigerian Students.
Scholarship Worth
The amounts listed below shall be paid depending on the course enrolled in.
A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount for the grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions.
Due to the situation of the Japanese Government’s budget, the payment amount may change each fiscal year. If a grantee is absent from the university for an extended period, the scholarship shall be suspended.
① Students receiving preparatory education and non-regular students: 143,000 yen per month
② Regular students enrolled in master’s or professional degree courses: 144,000 yen per month
③ Regular students enrolled in doctoral courses: 145,000 yen per month.
The Scholarship covers travel costs to Japan, living costs, Tuition fees, and book costs. This applies to Undergraduates and the College of Education Students. See More About Benefits in the Scholarship
Japan MEXT Scholarship Eligibilities
The Embassy will prioritize applicants with a Grade Point Average of 2:2 and above.
The closing date for submission of application forms is 14th June. Application forms received after this date will not be processed.

Application Deadline:
Deadline for submissions varies from embassy to embassy. However, you can click to find out more here regarding Japan’s embassy in Nigeria.
- Preliminary screening results: (Only successful candidates will be contacted).
- Submission are made in person or through courier service to the Embassy. No email submission has been accepted.
- Do not submit original documents; only notarised/authenticated/verified copies by the alma mater or a court would be accepted preliminarily.
