Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme at UK Universities

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are for candidates from least developed and lower-middle-income Commonwealth countries, for full-time Master’s study on selected courses jointly supported by UK universities. The scholarships do not cover undergraduate courses, Ph.D. studies, or pre-sessional English language teaching.

The scholarship is hosted by Participating DFID/UK Universities and is available for students who are nationals of an eligible Commonwealth country.

Scholarship Value:

 Each Scholarship provides approved tuition and examination fees, approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award, stipend at the rate of £1,084 per month, or £1,330 per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at previous levels), generous clothing allowance, study travel grant, and excess baggage allowance.

Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Program

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a few scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies.  Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant: 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year.

The Foundation prioritizes requests for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for Ph.D. programs. Applications for short-term courses are not considered.

Level/Field of the Scholarship:

The scholarship is open for full-time masters and Ph.D. students.

Host/Eligibility:

Any university hosts the scholarship except universities in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway, and Ireland, and available for nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique. In France, Portugal, the UK, the USA, and Canada.

Scholarship Value: 

The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. The cost of travel is not included in AKF scholarships.  Funding for Ph.D. programs is only provided for the first two years of study, after which the students are expected to find alternative sources of assistance.

Half the scholarship amount is considered a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the study period funded by the Aga Khan Foundation.

Host/Eligibility: The scholarship is hosted by World Bank in Washington DC, USA, for its interested Interns.

Scholarship Value: The Bank Group pays an hourly salary to all interns and, where applicable, provides an allowance toward travel expenses. Interns handle their living accommodations.

ADB Internship Program

The Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on ADB’s current operational needs.

Level/Field of the Scholarship: This internship typically seeks candidates in the Field of study directly related to ADB’s work

Host/Eligibility: The scholarship is hosted by Asian Development Bank Headquarters, Manila, Philippines or ADB Field Offices for interested interns.

Scholarship Value: Stipend is provided to all interns according to the location of internships up to 56 calendar days. Interns may work beyond 56 calendar days in agreement with the designated supervisors but without a stipend. The exception to receiving stipends would be interns who fall under the particular arrangement category between select schools and ADB.

Interns are provided with a limited food card/allowance and a limited amount to cover part of the airfare travel cost. They have to shoulder accommodation and transportation, part of the airfare, and food expenses.
