About Hasselt University
The motto “knowledge in action” is truly one that epitomizes the institutional environment of Hasselt University. Hasselt university was formerly called Limburg University Center (LUC) until it changed its name in 2005 to its present name was created in 1971, although it officially began in 1973.
Despite its relatively young age, the university has achieved tremendous growth and is currently ranked as one of the best institutions not just in its native Belgium but globally.
Hasselt University has a long-existing relationship with outstanding universities all across the globe. The university’s two campuses are within a short distance of each other and they are in Diepenbeek and Hasselt in Belgium.
Location
Hasselt is a tidy, aesthetic city with good climatic conditions that enhance learning. It is located in Flanders, a peaceful and growing part of Belgium.

Faculties
The university prides itself with six faculties; Engineering Technology, Architecture and Arts, Business economics, Medicine and life science, law, sciences and school of transportation.

University of Hasselt Admission Requirements
The University provides an array of courses in its graduate and undergraduate schools, including; Bachelor’s programme, Masters Programme, and Doctoral Programmes.
Bachelor’s program
To apply for a bachelor’s degree program, the students must have gained a diploma/certificates of secondary education or a diploma/certificate awarded in higher education.
For candidates who gained diplomas outside of Belgium, would have their credentials reviewed by the admission committee of the Limburg association of higher education.
Master’s program
The same policy applies to both international and Belgium students though there exist slight variations in requirements.
Students will be assessed based on the criteria of their past qualifications and academic record individually.
Students must gain a minimum of a university diploma certificate or University degree certificate equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

Admission for international students
To apply for studies under the full-time program, the applicant would apply for a provisional authorisation sojourn for a stay longer than 3 months visa or Visa D at the Belgian consulate or embassy in their respective country.
After applying online at the school’s official website, candidates must ensure that their transcript is sent to the school from their institution showing academic standing and awarded the degree.
Language Requirements/Regulation
The university’s language of teaching is primarily Dutch. Other languages apart from Dutch may be used in the various programs in which; some areas of the program have a foreign language as their subject, and a visiting professor teaches some areas of the program.
As a prerequisite for programs offered in any other language apart from Dutch, the students must pass a proficiency test for the language in which they teach the study program.
As it stands, five master’s programs are instructed in the English language.
Additional Basic Requirements
- Undergraduate degrees from only approved universities and colleges
- Applications are made very early through the application window online with a non-refundable fee of $271.68 for non-scholarship students and $124.03 for (probable) scholarship students.
- The intended department of the proposed program must then validate The application.
- Also applicants must also show proof that they have met language requirements.
- The verdict by the faculty committee would determine if an applicant may have to take a set of examinations.
- Other requirements are course-specific.
