About Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarship
The founder, Walter J. Brown, believed college education provides the best avenue toward success and fulfillment.
So in 1970, he established a private Foundation to support his belief. The Watson-Brown Foundation scholarships are awarded to students from communities in and near the Savannah River valley, where Brown was raised and spent most of his adult life.
The foundation staff manages this internal scholarship program while the board of trustees decides on scholarship awards during its regular second-quarter meeting.
It awards scholarships based on academic merit and financial need to help students with tuition, books, and room and board costs. Scholarship checks will be mailed directly from the foundation to the recipient’s college’s financial assistance office.
Utmost priority will be given to students in particular counties of Georgia and South Carolina. However, standardized test scores do not solely reflect academic merit, and the scholarship committee does not SAT and ACT scores when testing applications.
The scholarship committee considers all aspects of the student’s application; the Foundation will combine a student’s highest sub-scores from each test. Please ensure it includes all your test scores in your application materials.
There is a short renewal application. However, the application is often used to update students’ information. Previous recipients must submit transcripts to the foundation at the end of each semester to verify that he/she has maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and taken 12 or more credit hours.
