About the Sponsor: The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is the department of the Government of Australia responsible for foreign policy, foreign relations, foreign aid, consular services, and trade and investment. They provide and awards scholarships to international students from different part of the continent including Africa, Asia, and other developing countries. They collaborate with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT).

Furthermore, The department finds its origins in two of the seven original Commonwealth Departments established following Federation: the Department of Trade and Customs and the Department of External Affairs, headed by Harry Wollaston and Atlee Hunt respectively.

These Australia awards Scholarships cover programs at bachelor and Postgraduate levels in any field of studies.

Note: Australia Awards are not available for training in areas related to flying aircraft, nuclear technology or military training.

Host Nationality

These scholarships for India students are hosted by the Government of Australia and the awardee can study in any of the Participating Australian Institutions.

Australian Awards Scholarships Worth

The Australia Awards Scholarships for Indian Students offer full financial support which encompasses the following:

Aside the basic eligibility requirements listed above, you must also, meet the following criteria:

  • You must be nominated by their institution
  • Have recently graduated from one of the participating institutions, or about to graduate
  • Hold, or be in the final year of, a tertiary-level qualification at least equivalent to an Australian Bachelors degree
  • Have a relevant academic background in the proposed study program
  • meet admission and other specific requirements of universities in Australia. Applicants must comply with entry requirements for the universities and courses they are seeking admission to, including English proficiency requirements.

Note, to be shortlisted for an interview you must:

  • achieve a minimum academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0 or the equivalent TOEFL or PTE score. .;

Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Ability to demonstrate how the scholarship will contribute to career goals.

Preparatory training All successful applicants will be required to attend:

Other Information

Applicants shortlisted for an interview who need to take an English Test will be reimbursed upon presentation of an official receipt from the respective test provider.

Also, Applicants shortlisted for interviews who are submitting existing English Test scores must ensure that their test results are valid until 1 January.

Furthermore, Scholarships will not be available for courses of study in Australia where the applicant has already achieved that qualification and the qualification is deemed to be equivalent to the Australian qualification.

Each institution can nominate up to four candidates. Application forms will be provided. Candidates must submit the nomination letter from the institution and the application materials (completed form, one-page personal statement, and supporting documents) to the Australia Awards – Bhutan and India Office at inquiries@australiaawardsindia.org by 15 May.
Applications or supporting documents received after this date will not be considered.

Applicants must submit all the following supporting documents with their application—these include generic documents requested in the Scholarships Policy Handbook and specific documents required for applicants from India.

  • Passport
  • Identification documents (PAN Card/Voter Card/Aadhaar Card)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Degree certificates (Bachelor’s and any Post Graduate level), or certified academic transcript if the degree is yet to be conferred.
  • Certificates of special achievements or merit which are relevant to the proposed study program

No. Australia Awards are not available to intending migrants or those who have Australian permanent residency. Awardees are required to leave Australia for a minimum of two years after completing their scholarship. Failure to do so will cause the awardee incurring a debt for the total accrued cost of their award.
