#5 NSHSS STEM Scholarship

The NSHSS STEM Scholarship is to attend the high school program in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field, including any area related to the medical field. The purpose of the grant is to encourage the study of science, technology, engineering, mathematics.

Eligibility Requirements: High school senior NSHSS members planning to major in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), including any area related to the medical field.

Scholarship Award: Participants receive cash awards ranging from $1,000.

Application Requirements: Personal statement of 500 words discussing why you have selected your intended STEM major and your future career plans related to this major.

  • Resume (may be copied and pasted or uploaded)
  • Transcript (may be uploaded, mailed, or emailed)
  • Educator Recommendation (submitted via the online form; link provided in the application)
  • Principal and counselor’s name and email address
  • Color headshot suitable for website posting

#5 How I Got Into My Dream US School Scholarship

This scholarship is for international applicants to share their experiences getting into their first-choice US College. This may include first-hand tips, guidance, and advice from students who have successfully joined the ranks of their dream schools and wish to help others by sharing their own journey to college acceptance in the US.

Eligibility Requirements: International students currently attending a US university and international high school seniors who plan on attending college in the United States.

Scholarship Award: USD $1,000

Application Requirements:

  • A detailed write-up of your experience from high school through your acceptance to a U.S. college based on questions provided (2,500 words); (see below)
  • Resume;
  • Transcript;
  • Headshot suitable for website posting;
  • Educator recommendation;
  • Copy of college application materials (including college application essay and why you selected the topic).
  • Applicants may be requested to submit a video of no more than 4 minutes introducing yourself and sharing your path to college acceptance.

#4 Central Intelligence Agency (CA) Undergraduate Scholarship Program

A partner of NSHSS, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) invites high school seniors and college underclassmen to apply to the CIA’s Undergraduate Scholarship Program. If you have good grades (particularly in STEM), are a leader in and out of class, and meet the work and eligibility criteria, consider applying and bringing your unique perspective to the CIA.

Eligibility Requirements: US citizenship required. All positions require relocation to the Washington, D.C. metro area. To view the full list of qualifications required, please click here.

Scholarship Award: Tuition assistance, up to $18,000 per calendar year, two full-time internship opportunities during the summer break starting in 2020, and continued employment with the CIA upon university graduation.

#3 NSHSS Emerging Leader Award 2020

The NSHSS Emerging Leader Award recognizes a student who has made a significant impact and positive difference through his/her leadership activities and initiatives. Scholarship funds will be sent to the student’s university prior to the fall 2020 semester and can be used at any 4-year accredited university.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Undergraduate college freshman, sophomore or junior who demonstrates exemplary leadership in their school, community and/or workplace
  • Be enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Full-time student taking 12 or more credits during Fall 2020 semester
  • Application is open to NSHSS college students worldwide

Scholarship Award: USD $1,000 scholarship

Application Requirements:

Personal statement of 500 words to two of three questions below:

  1. In your own words, how do you define leadership?
  2. What three words best describe your leadership style and why?
  3. Explain how your leadership in a particular activity or initiative has made a positive impact on the lives of others and/or in your community.

#2 James W. Lewis Entrepreneur Scholar Awards

Eligibility Requirements: High school juniors, seniors and college students who have an idea for a product, service, business, or other innovation.

Scholarship Award: USD $1,000 scholarships

Application Requirements:

  • Business Idea and Business Plan
  • Resume
  • Transcript
  • Educator Recommendation
  • Color headshot suitable for website posting

Business Idea: Please provide a brief description including:

  • Your proposed idea, business, or product
  • Why there is a need for it & how it is different from others in the same category
  • How you would make (or have made) a prototype
  • What your plan is for turning this innovation into reality
  • How you got the idea and what you have done about it thus far

Business Plan: Applicants are also required to include a business plan outlining strategies for launching their idea. A business plan outlines how you plan to grow your business and explains your strategic vision.

#1 Stockholm University Nobel Week Travel Grants

As a high school or college student of the National Society of High School Scholars, you may apply to participate in a special event hosted by NSHSS partner, Stockholm University, during the annual Nobel Week taking place this year from December 5-10.

During this prestigious event, participants will have the opportunity to attend activities surrounding the Nobel Prize Award Ceremonies, the Nobel Lectures, and numerous other festivities that take place in honor of the 2020 Nobel Laureates.

Eligibility Requirements: NSHSS high school seniors and college members

Scholarship Award: Five USD $1,500 scholarships for students to travel to Stockholm, Sweden, for Nobel Week activities hosted by Stockholm University.

Application Requirements:

  • Personal Statement of approximately 500 words answering the following: How do you hope to make a positive impact on society? Include how your college plans fit into this.
