The University of Oklahoma, OU, in short, is a public research university in Norman, Oklahoma. Located on 660 Parrington Oval, Norman, Oklahoma, OU was founded in 1890 and runs a four-year full-time undergraduate enrollment program.
The university offers 152 bachelor’s degree programs, 160 master’s programs, and 75 doctorate programs.
OU consists of fifteen colleges which comprise of a total 152 majors and this includes highly ranked areas such as aviation, international business, meteorology, geology, petroleum engineering, energy management, architecture, law, medicine, and Native American studies programs (which includes classes in languages such as Cherokee, Choctaw, Muscogee Creek, and Kiowa).
OU utilizes a semester-based academic calendar and also boasts of a high student transfer-in population. Students who come in on the basis of transfer are allowed to transfer as many nine credit hours of honor classes the universities they are transferred from.
There are over 300 student clubs and organizations in the university and about 25 percent of its students belong to the school’s large Greek community which is made up of different fraternities and sororities.

About University of Oklahoma
The University of Oklahoma also operates a nationally recognized Honors College wherein students of OU can apply to in order to pursue a separate cum laude (first class) degree.
Students who are accepted into the Honors College are required to complete 18 credit hours of honors classes in the college that comprises of its own dedicated faculty, dormitories, and writing center; this they do along with their major classes during the course of their program and upon completion of the honors program which is confirmed by the submission of an honors thesis, such students are eligible to graduate cum laude.
OU has three campuses in Oklahoma as well as centers in Arezzo, Italy, Puebla, Mexico, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The school’s main campus, the Norman campus, is home to a majority of its undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
It has two prominent museums, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, specializing in French Impressionism and Native American artwork, and the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, specializing in the natural history of Oklahoma.
All freshmen are required to live on the school’s campus, which is also home to the National Weather Center, where students of OU can have research internships during the summer.
The sports teams that represent the University of Oklahoma are known as the OU Sooners.
The OU Sooners are traditionally dominant sports teams that compete in the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference and have claimed multiple national championships in multiple sports including men’s football, women’s softball, and men and women’s gymnastics teams.
University of Oklahoma Admissions and Acceptance Rate
The University of Oklahoma has a student population of more than 31,000 students with a total undergraduate enrollment of 22,400 students and an average of 6,100 post-graduate students. In addition to having students from all 50 U.S. States, OU also has many international students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with more than 100 nationalities represented in the school.
Ethnic minority groups represent over 25% of newly enrolled undergraduates and 27% of all students.
OU doesn’t have a specific GPA or test score that must be met by every student that is to be admitted into the school. It instead focuses on a holistic admissions process where several factors in addition to academic achievement are taken into account.
The School has been categorized as “more selective” by the Carnegie Foundation and has a 71 percent acceptance rate while around 30% of its freshmen were in the top 10% of their high school class.
The University of Oklahoma Tuition Fees
It’s In-state tuition and fees are at $9,062 while its Out-of-state tuition and fees are at $24,443. In an effort to save students money, undergraduate tuition for full-time students is based on a flat rate of 15 credit hours.
When applying to the University of Oklahoma, it’s important to note the application deadline is Feb. 1 and the application fee at the school is $40.

Last year 80% of OU students were awarded some type of financial assistance and the total amount of aid for those recipients was almost $130 million. The aid was a combination of scholarships, grants, loans, work-study, and tuition waivers.

Fall Work Assistance Application Open
Are you an undergraduate student on the Norman campus? Do you currently work 25+ hours per week? If so, you may be eligible for our Work Assistance Tuition Waiver program!
The Work Assistance Tuition Waiver is designed to assist current undergraduate students working 25+ hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters.
The intent of this tuition waiver is to help working students with their finances so that they are able to work fewer hours during the semester and focus more time and energy on their studies. The amount of tuition waivers varies.

University of Oklahoma Sooners Football
The OU Sooners football team is a member of the Big 12 Conference, which is in Division I Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Football team was formed in 1895 and has gone on to win 7 national championships, 45 conference championships, as well as gone on to produce six Heisman Trophy winners.
The team also holds the record for the longest winning streak in Division I history with 47 straight victories between 1953 and 1957 and also has the most wins and highest winning percentage in the Division since 1945 with 606 and 76.2 percent respectively.
In addition, the OU Sooners has had 23 members (five coaches and 18 players) inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and is also the only program that has had four coaches with 100+ wins.
The Sooners, who play in their traditional Crimson and Cream colors, play their home games at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma which has a capacity of 86,112 and they are cheered by the mascot Sooner Schooner, a replica of an old Conestoga covered wagon
The OU Sooners football team has had a significant impact on the development of the University. In 2000, following the team’s performances in the football national-championship season, the school witnessed an increase in the number of students that applied and were admitted into its college, with an increase of 1.3 percent between the years 1999 and 2000 fall session to an increase of 4.8 percent from the year 2000 to 2001.
