Transnet SOC Ltd was founded in 1990 and is the biggest logistical freight company in South Africa. Nevertheless, 1867 was the first time the country identified a need for railway services upon discovering diamonds in Kimberly.
The company is responsible for transporting tons of goods around South Africa daily via rail, port, and pipeline.
The company has headquarters at the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg and has a staff force of over 49 000 employees. They aim to deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective, efficient, and integrated services to promote the country’s economic growth.
Transnet is composed of these operating divisions: railroad engineering (previously called Transwerk), freight rail (previously called Spoornet), vent terminals (previously called SAPO), a national ports authority (formerly referred to as the NPA), and pipelines (previously called Petronet).

Transnet is providing bursary awards to students who they believe will be the company’s future as soon as they complete their studies.
If you are a current full-time student or are in Grade 12 and are intended to study full-time next year, you have strong academic results, and you would like to become part of the country’s biggest freight company, you may be the perfect bursary candidate.

Eligible Nationality:
The Bursary is open to all South African students to study at any country’s university.

Scholarship Benefits:
These expenses will be paid for by this bursary program: tuition fees, textbook allowance, accommodation, meals, and experiential training.
Students might have to accomplish vacation work in Transnet during the June or December holidays.
Upon completion of studies, the successful bursary candidate must work at Transnet for an equal period of their award. The bursary award will only be renewed should the student maintain satisfactory academic performance.
Eligibility
Applicants should meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying(please note that failure to meet each of the requirements will result in your application not being considered):
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Achieved a minimum 5 symbols for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
- Studying full-time toward one of the Engineering mentioned qualifications
- Studying at a South African University
CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS
The Transnet Bursary Department will screen the applications.
The candidates that fulfill the academic performance criteria will be shortlisted and invited for an interview.
The interviews will occur in Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, and Johannesburg.
Candidates will be selected based on the interview outcome, academic results, and medical fitness.
