About the University of Mobile

The University of Mobile is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention.

Located on over 880 wooded acres approximately 10 miles north of Mobile, Alabama, the university has a student population of 1,577 students from thirty states and twenty-four nations. Sixty-five percent of this student population is from the Mobile area or surrounding counties while seventeen percent are from other areas in Alabama.

Forty percent of the student body resides on campus and sixty-five percent of the students are Southern Baptist, showing that albeit Baptist-affiliated, the University of Mobile is a multidenominational university.

The University of Mobile has six schools. The College of Arts and Sciences offers degrees in history, political science, psychology, sociology, social science, biology, environmental management, marine science, mathematics, English, humanities, and communication. 

Its School of Business offers degrees in accounting, business administration (with concentrations in finance, management, and marketing), and computer information systems; and a master’s degree in business administration.

The School of Christian Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Theology.

School of Education offers degrees in early childhood education and elementary education as well as secondary certification for biology, history, mathematics, language arts, social sciences, and human performance and exercise science.

Additionally, The School of Nursing offers associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing and a Master of Science in nursing. The Alabama School of the Arts offers degrees in visual arts, music, theatre, and worship leadership.

The University of Mobile has also established engineering partnership programs with Auburn University and the University of South Alabama, giving students the opportunity to receive a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mobile and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the participating university.

Scholarships and Aid

Scholarships at the University of Mobile are classified under Undergraduate students and Transfer students. These scholarships are made available after students apply and are offered admission into the university.

Here is a list of available scholarships.

Traditional Undergraduate Students:

Students are automatically considered for an academic scholarship award after completing the application process. In addition to academic merit awards, UM also offers a variety of talent-based scholarships.

FRESHMEN ACADEMIC

Presidential Scholarship Award: Offers $12,000 per year based on academic achievement. Automatic renewal is applicable if the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester. It is receivable for up to 8 semesters

Founder’s Scholarship Award: Offers $10,000 per year based on academic achievement. Automatic renewal is applicable if the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester. It is
receivable for up to 8 semesters.

Dean’s Scholarship Award: Offers $8,000 per year based on academic achievement. Automatic renewal is applicable if a student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester. It is receivable for up to 8 semesters.

University Scholarship Award: Offers $6,000 per year based on academic achievement. Automatic renewal is applicable if a student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and enrolls in at least 12 hours per semester. It is
receivable for up to 8 semesters.

#1 Wallace Scholarship

The University of Mobile annually awards a tuition scholarship to a Boys and Girls Club member getting ready to graduate from high school and pursue an education at the University of Mobile.

#3 Alumni Association Scholarship

An offer of a $1,000 annual scholarship is available to students whose parents or legal guardians are UM Alumni. Eligible students may download an application here:

Recipients will be selected by the Alumni Board of Directors and will be evaluated based on financial need, quality of the application, GPA, and extracurricular activities.

The deadline for applying is March 1.

#4 Transfer Academic Scholarships:

These are based on incoming cumulative GPA. Here is a list of available transfer academic scholarships available to UM transfer students.

  • Transfer Merit (3.5+ GPA) – $7,000 per year
  • Transfer Merit (3.25 – 3.499 GPA) – $6,000 per year
  • Merit (2.80 – 3.249 GPA) –$5,000 per year
  • Transfer Merit (2.25 – 2.799 GPA) –$4,000 per year

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $2000 per year offer available to any Phi Theta Kappa Inductee. It can be combined with academic scholarships.

Applying for the University of Mobile Aid

The UM Office of Financial Aid assists students in applying for federal and university aid, which includes FAFSA and other scholarships & grants. However, the FAFSA is used to determine students eligible for federal and institutional financial aid.

Students are expected to complete their FAFSA application online at www.fafsa.gov

The easiest way to complete FAFSA is by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Students should fill in the University of Mobile’s School Code for the FAFSA application. The code is 001029.

Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to students’ mail a few weeks after completing the FAFSA. It is expected of students to review the information reported to ensure it is correct.
